ANCIENT ROMAN THEATRE

PLOVDIV, BULGARIA

The Roman Amphitheater in Plovdiv was built in the 2nd century AD, during the rule of Emperor Trajan. It was one of the most impressive structures in the town of Trimontium. Up to 7,000 spectators had the chance to enjoy the Drama on the stage. The theater was excavated in 1968 during archaeological works. Now it is part of the complex of Old Plovdiv. Today it hosts concerts and other cultural events.
