BITOLA, NORTH MACEDONIA

The city of Bitola is important cultural, educational and economic center in Macedonia. Since the Ottoman Empire, Bitola has been known under the name “Consular city”, as consulates of many European countries were founded there. Throughout the centuries, the city of Bitola has been inhabited by people of different nationalities each having different culture and traditions. Even today in Bitola there are temples that worship different religions such as Yeni Mosque, Ishak Celebi Mosque as well as Orthodox, Catolic and Protestant churches. St. Dimitar Church, built in 1830, is the most impressive one with its beautifully carved iconostasis.
