With a population of 200,000 Durres is the second largest city in Albania. This is one of the most important industrial centers and also the biggest port in the country. The area around is very fertile. There are regular ferries with the Italian towns of Brindisi and Bari. Durres was found in 7th c BC Some of the historical sites of teh palce are the palace of king Zogu, roman theatre, early Christian chapel, Byzantine square, Roman baths and many bunkers. Thousands of tourists come every year to enjoy their summer holiday by the sea.
