RUSSIAN CHURCH

SOFIA, BULGARIA

"St. Nikolai The Miracle maker", most well known as the Russian church is an orthodox temple in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, dedicated to St. Nicholas. It's one of the most emblematic buildings in Sofia. The construction started at the end of the 19th century and it was finished just before the first world war. The land it was built on was the property of the Russian embassy and the project was led by the architect Michail Preobrazhensky. It had to fulfill the needs of the Russian emigration by that time. The five domes are gold planted and the bells are present from the Russian Tsar Nikolai II. The architectural type is strictly following the cannons of the Russian orthodox dogma.
