SPLIT

SPLIT, CROATIA

Split is a town located on the Adriatic coast. At this place at the end of the 3rd century, Roman Emperor Diocletian, born in a small village in the hills around today's city, decided to build his summer residence.

Split is a lovely town with narrow streets and small Venetian-style squares, pleasant cafes, restaurants, art galleries and antique shops. The core of the city is shaped around the former Diocletian's palace, where the imperial mausoleum, converted into a Christian cathedral and the temple of Jupiter, can be seen today. Wonderful views are found on the coastal street of Split, the city's Riva, leading to the green forests of Mount Marian.
