ST. JOACHIM OSOGOVSKI MONASTERY

KRIVA PALANKA, NORTH MACEDONIA

St. Joachim Osogovski  Monastery,  where the relics of  the legendary  saint  Joachim  have been preserved,  is located about 3 kilometers from the town of Kriva Palanka. The monastery is mentioned for the first time during the reign of Tsar Kaloyan (1196-1207). In the middle of the 18th century, the monastery was abandoned and the relics of St. Joachim were lost. In the middle of the 19th century the monastery together with the main church were rebuilt. Today the monastery complex consists of a large monastery church "St. Joachim Osogovski", small medieval church "Nativity of Virgin Mary" as well as several residential buildings.
