ST. SOFIA

SOFIA, BULGARIA

"St. Sofia" is an early Christian orthodox church, which gave the name of the Bulgarian capital. According to the archeologists it was built during the 4th century and during the 6th it was expanded during the reign of emperor Justinian. It's dedicated to the Holy wisdom. In the crypt the scientists found an early Christian necropolis from the 1st century. The church is built in the typical early Christian architectural type.
