ST. VIRGIN MARY PERIBLEPTOS CHURCH

OHRID, NORTH MACEDONIA

The church was built in 1295 and was commissioned by the Byzantine governor in Ohrid, Progonos Sgouros. The church is dedicated to St. Virgin Mary. At the end of the 15th century , when Ohrid was devastated by the Ottomans, the holy remains of Kliment Ohridski were being taken to the church . St. Virgin Mary Peribleptos Church was the 3rd most significant church in Ohrid. When the St. Sofia Church was turned into a mosque, St. Virgin Mary Peribleptos Church became the seat of Ohrid Archbishopric. '' Peribleptos '' means ''all seeing''. In the church one can see astonishing frescoes which represent the life of St. Virgin Mary.
